Socorro’s Story

“In March of 2019, I heard on Radio CEPAD that they were going to start working with communities of little resources in the Teustepe region. So I met with some of the church members and other community leaders so we could apply with a letter asking for help. It was because of this that CEPAD first started the programs in March of 2021.”

Socorro was chosen to participate in the sustainable, organic farming program, and has been participating in CEPAD workshops, using the new techniques he’s learning on his farm.

“Before CEPAD came to our community, my family and I didn’t know how to prepare the land to produce more or identify the needs of our farms. Now we can plant, harvest, prepare healthy food, and consume what we produce.”

“We have 20 different types of crops on my land, all of which produce food for us to eat. Right now we’re harvesting papaya, tomato, yucca, and squash, which we are eating and sharing with our neighbors.”

While Socorro is learning all these new things, he’s not selfish with the information, he shares it with others in his community.

“I’m helping train four disciples, and I’ve given them some seeds that I’ve produced on my farm so they can better their crops in order to feed their families, which is the most important.”

Socorro’s hard work and dedication is paying off as he is providing a better future for himself and for his children.
