New Techniques
“Before CEPAD came to my community, my family and I didn’t know how to prepare the soil or identify our needs. In few words, we were living in darkness. There were no other organizations that have helped us.”
But when Carlos heard on the radio about CEPAD coming to work with rural villages near Teustepe, he gathered other church members and community leaders. Together, they wrote a letter to the local CEPAD office, asking for CEPAD’s programs in their community.
Carlos was then elected by his community to be part of the Sustainable Agriculture Program, where he has learned how to take care of the land and diversify his crops.
“Today, I am consuming what I produce on my farm, different fruits and vegetables. I have 20 different crops on my farm. I have a water capturing system that can hold 100 gallons of water. I’m using new techniques and practices on my farm.”
“I’m thankful that I can now identify needs on my land, and not just identify them, but resolve them. I can plant, grow, and harvest good produce to eat. We’re sharing our harvest with neighboring families and training them how they can farm, too.”
In this way, Carlos and other farmers are sharing their new knowledge, multiplying it with other families across their community and neighboring communities.
Thank YOU for giving Carlos the new techniques he needs to have a successful farm. To give other families the same opportunities and tools, you can partner with us here.
