When the 2021 hurricanes hit Nicaragua, many crops, homes, and families were destroyed by the loss. Due to generous donors like YOU, CEPAD was able to deliver new zinc roofing materials, food packages, and seed packets to those who live in the most affected areas. 

Oscar is part of just one of the families to receive zinc sheets. 

“Even before the storm, our house was in very bad conditions. Our roof had holes and often leaked, getting a lot of water in the home. It was even worse after the hurricanes. I’m very happy with our new roof because water can’t get inside now.”

Oscar has a small farm and lost a lot of his crops, making it difficult to both eat and gain an income.

“We lost our crops this year due to the hurricanes. We lost everything, but we hope to be able to plant again. We received a bag of food from CEPAD, which will feed us for a few weeks so we don’t have to worry. We feel so grateful to not experience so much scarcity right now in our time of need.”

Instead of worrying about his home and farmland, Oscar is able to care for his growing family – his wife is very pregnant and will soon give birth to a baby girl. With the new roof, he and his wife can sleep soundly at night, and the food will help feed them while they wait for their new crops to grow.
