Advent Week 1: Hope

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light:
On those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.”

Isaiah 9:2, 6-7 (NIV)

With this passage, we are reminded of the hope we find in Jesus Christ. Isaiah the prophet was prophesying that the Messiah would come, and finally, hundreds of years later, Jesus was born – God made flesh. In the hundreds of years between Isaiah and Christ, the Israelites waited and hoped for that day.

We are still waiting with hope for the second coming of Jesus. When “He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.”

Today we encourage you to reflect on what you are hoping and waiting for. At CEPAD, the communities we walk alongside are hoping to improve their way of life, taking advantage of every opportunity to learn and become self-sustainable. CEPAD staff hopes to continue our ministry as we prepare to leave our current communities and enter new ones in 2020.

We hope you join us.
