Pedro at a meeting with local authorities.
We Can Do It
The words, ‘I can’t’ don’t exist for me, and I’m sure they don’t exist for the rest of the community.
Pedro shares with pride about all that his community has accomplished thanks to CEPAD’s Leadership Development Program. As someone who wanted to help motivate his community, Pedro was excited at the opportunity to be part of the Community Development Committee (CDC), with the goal of assessing his community’s needs, and working to get projects accomplished to better their community.
With the help of the other committee members, Pedro was able to start a campaign with local authorities to build 21 houses. Six of the houses have been completed, and the remaining 15 are approved. The committee also has an ongoing project to get 5km of road repaired to connect them with another local community.
These accomplishment don’t come out of nowhere; they’re from the community’s efforts and work into making it happen. Seeing the families receive their homes and the hope this brings to our community doesn’t have a price. It gives us the feeling that we can do it if we want to.
We are so thankful that Pedro and the other committee members now feel prepared to face any difficulties that may come and that they have the skills to advocate for themselves and their community.
