Alicia and her mom, Bernardina.
Empowering Girls for the Future
Your contributions go a long way to supporting thousands of families all over Nicaragua. For Alicia, a 9-year-old, your impact means a healthier diet and improved performance in school. This is an amazing transformation; thank you for making it possible!
Nine-year-old Alicia goes out to help her mother, Bernardina, harvest the plentiful fruits and vegetables that they now grow in their garden. This abundance has been made possible thanks to your support of CEPAD’s Family Garden program.
Bernardina has learned how to grow squash, peppers, pineapple, cantaloupe, watermelon, and papaya using organic agricultural techniques to ensure her and her family are eating well. Alicia’s favorite part of helping her mother is picking the papayas.
Because of her improved diet and shared activity of gardening with her mom, Alicia has become a much better student. She enjoys school, with science being her favorite class. “I like science, because I like learning about the human body and how it works.”
Alicia has even started competing in reading competitions between local schools. She enjoys these competitions and is hoping to compete in one for drawing soon. She shares her dream for the future. “When I grow up, I want to own and work in a beauty salon.”
Bernardina has seen the change in her daughter.
Thank you for helping Alicia and her children like her realize their potential and empower them to dream big for their future!
