Dr. Gustavo Parajón Conference

Our staff came together last week to reflect on the example of service of Dr. Gustavo Parajón, CEPAD founder. We were led in Biblical reflection by long-time CEPAD friend, Rev. Stan Slade. Following, are just some of the themes we studied.

  • True Service. We looked at how Jesus washed the feet of His disciples and how we can metaphorically get our hands dirty in ministry.
  • Opportunity. Genesis 33:10 “For to see your face is like seeing the face of God.” Jacob meets Esau and is surprised at his brother’s forgiveness. In ministry, we have the opportunity to show God’s love to those around us.
  • Centering ourselves on Christ. Rev. Stan Slade used the metaphor of the sunflower. In the morning, they face the East, waiting for the sun to rise, but by nightfall, they are facing West after following the sun throughout the day. So, too, should be focused on following Christ.

Towards the end of our time together, we dreamed about our hopes for CEPAD’s future before getting the opportunity to share them with one another. Building our new office and center, expanding our work in the dry corridor, strengthening the pastoral work we do, empowering women across the country, and increasing our efforts toward fighting climate change. These are just some of the many dreams we have.

We thank you for being part of CEPAD’s 50 years of service, and we hope you will continue for many more years to come.
